Vito Salvato, whose work as an aeronautical engineer took him around the globe, but whose home here in Winhall gave him the peace he craved, and loved all kinds of art. He himself was an accomplished photographer.
He moved to Winhall in 1983 and later designed and built the Bondville home where he lived out the rest of his life. Vito furnished the place with carefully curated art—paintings, photographs, ceramics, and sculpture. He appreciated the friendships he found during the years he skied every weekday at Stratton.

 

By 2010 he had invited his beloved partner Linda Beher to share life with him in Vermont. The couple enjoyed daily skiing at Stratton, tending the perennial gardens at home, and entertaining friends. When the Winhall Community Art Center opened they were enthusiastic patrons. Though Vito Salvato’s earthly life ended in 2022, his legacy lives on through the gallery named for him at the Center.
